How to figure out the tide on a tide watch or tide clock. Generally you need a few pieces of information: GMT/UTC, lunitidal interval, and Longitude and Latitude.
So, here is the information for our area:
GMT/UTC - We are -5 and -4 (daylight savings time/Summer months)
Lunitidal Interval - This is easy to figure out. What you need:
1. You need the moonrise and moonset time. This can be found on accuweather.com or any weather site for that matter.
2. A tide table that can be found on our tide reports page.
How you figure out the Lunitidal interval:
1. Take the moonrise and moonset time and figure out the midpoint. This is when the moon is highest in the sky. So if the moonrise was 6pm and moonset was 3am, the highest point/mid point would be 1030pm.
2. Next you look at the next high tide after the mid point. So if the next high tide was 630am, there would be an 8 hour difference between the mid point and the next high tide. Essentially, the next high tide is 8 hours away from the mid point. So the lunitidal interval would be 8. Simple huh?
Anyway here is the info for our area:
